This trip takes you to the heart of the majestic Gaspésie mountain region, where every step brings you closer to iconic peaks and breathtaking panoramas. Follow winding trails through dense forests, cross crystal-clear streams and climb steep ridges to dizzying heights. This adventure offers not only exciting challenges, but also moments of wonder as you look out to the natural splendor of the Chic-Chocs. The word comes from the Micmac vocabulary and means "impenetrable wall", but without heavy luggage to carry, no meals to prepare and no itineraries to plan, the Chic-Chocs offer exceptional excursions renowned by outdoor enthusiasts. Get ready for an unforgettable six-day wilderness experience at every turn of the trail.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: MONTREAL - MONT-ALBERT LODGE : Make your own way to the Mont-Albert lodge in the afternoon, where you'll meet your guide for the week. Settle into your rooms. Later in the evening, we'll have dinner and a preparatory meeting with your guide for the next day's hike.

  • Day 2: MONT OLIVINE : Breakfast at the Mont-Albert lodge to start off your day. Then off to the starting point of your hike. If you're looking for the best view in the Chics-Chocs this summer, look no further. On a sunny day, the summit of Mont Olivine offers a breathtaking panorama of Mont-Albert and its green slopes. You'll find yourself literally surrounded by mountains, far from home, with breathtaking views! The trail is well-marked and varied, passing through dense forests, rivers and rocky alpine sections. End this memorable day with a delicious dinner and a restful night at the Mont-Albert lodge.

    Distance: 12km / Approx. walking time: 4 to 5 hrs / Elevation: +570m, -570m.
  • Day 3: MONT XALIBU : Breakfast at the Mont-Albert lodge, then set off on an 11 km round-trip adventure to Mont Xalibu. Culminating at an altitude of 1,150 meters, this mountain offers spectacular panoramas and a rewarding hiking experience. This area is known for its abundant wildlife, including the woodland caribou that inhabit the region. Hikers can also observe a variety of rare alpine plants. Once at the summit, hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Chic-Chocs mountains and the surrounding valley. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Hiking Mount Xalibu is a memorable adventure for nature and mountain lovers. It combines physical challenge with the raw beauty of the Gaspésie landscape, offering a rewarding experience for those who are up for it. The trail is well-marked, but includes steep, rocky sections. Hikers should be prepared to climb and cross areas of alpine tundra. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Mont-Albert lodge.

  • Day 4: MONT-ALBERT LOOP : After breakfast at the Mont-Albert lodge, you will set off to discover the Mont-Albert loop, an emblematic hike in the Gaspésie National Park. This spectacular loop offers varied scenery, physical challenges and a deep immersion in the nature of the Chic-Chocs mountains. One of the most impressive features of this hike is the vast plateau of Mont-Albert, often compared to an alpine tundra. It offers sensational views and a unique atmosphere. The panoramic views from the summit and the Mont-Albert plateau are breathtaking, offering vistas of the surrounding valleys, the Chic-Chocs mountains and sometimes as far as the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The region is rich in biodiversity. Hikers can spot woodland caribou, moose, groundhogs and a variety of birds. The alpine flora is equally diverse and colourful. A section of the trail runs alongside the Sainte-Anne River, offering serene scenery and opportunities for refreshment. The Mont-Albert loop hike is a demanding but extremely rewarding adventure. It offers an unforgettable experience for hikers and nature lovers alike. The trail is well-marked and crosses different types of terrain, including dense forests, rocky fields and alpine zones. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the Mont-Albert lodge.

    Distance: 17.5 km / Approx. walking time: 6 to 8 hrs / Elevation: +950m, -950m.
  • Day 5: MONTS-VALLIÈRES : After breakfast, head out to explore the Monts-Vallières-de-Saint-Réal. Nestled in the heart of the Gaspésie National Park, they offer an exceptional hike, combining physical challenges with spectacular panoramas. This adventure takes you through majestic alpine landscapes, dense forests and soaring ridges, in one of Quebec's wildest and most unspoiled regions. Strategically placed shelters, like the one at Le Huard, provide welcome resting places to recharge before continuing the adventure. The trail is well marked and crosses forests, alpine zones and rocky ridges. Some sections can be steep and technical. The Monts-Vallières-de-Saint-Réal is an epic mountain hike that challenges as much as it rewards.

    Distance: 12 km / Approx. walking time: 6 hrs / Elevation: +968m, -968m.
  • Day 6: MONT ERNEST-LAFORCE - RETURN TO MONTREAL : Enjoy your last breakfast at the Mont-Albert lodge, then leave for Mont Ernest-Laforce, where you'll complete your challenge with a hike through breathtaking scenery, without tackling overly demanding routes. This mountain, with its spectacular panoramas and easy access, is ideal for a wilderness adventure. Best ratio of effort to scenery! The summit of Mont Ernest-Laforce offers a 360-degree view of the Chic-Chocs mountains and the Sainte-Anne River valley. The region is famous for its caribou and moose populations. Hikers have a good chance of spotting these majestic animals, especially early in the morning or late in the day. The trail passes through various ecological zones, offering a beautiful diversity of plants and wildflowers. The trail is well-marked and well-maintained, with forest sections and open areas offering panoramic views. You'll be back on the road to Montreal after this great hike!
